Since recently posting about one famous Argentinian in reference to Chesterton, here is the thoughts of another one, Jorge Luis Borges, about GKC's "Father Brown" stories:

"Chesterton said that there had never been detective stories better than those of Poe, but Chesterton himself seems to me better than Poe."

[quoted in The Fantastic Fiction of Gilbert Chesterton, Martin Gardner, p. 91 (2008)]

  1. I like Chesterton better then Poe myself. Of course I never could get past Poe's morbidity. So needless to say harder to appreciate his mystery.

  2. :-) Well, I haven't ever read anything by Poe (except for "The Raven", of course, at school), so I cannot compare and contrast the two....That said, I have a feeling I would prefer Chesterton to Poe in any case (and that quite apart from my great love for GKC; I would probably prefer most people to Poe, for precisely the reason of the latter's morbidity.)
